This paper reinforces the role and significance of DSM in India’s electricity, energy conservation and climate change reforms. It highlights the important synergies between DSM and ongoing electricity reforms (such as the Ujwal Discom Assurance Yojana, National Tariff Policy Amendments 2016, Electricity Amendment Bill 2014, Draft National Renewable Energy Act 2015 and 24 X7 Power for All by 2019), energy conservation reforms (such as the Perform Achieve and Trade) and climate action (such as India’s INDC commitments) and highlights how DSM can accelerate these reforms.
