Executive Summary: The building sector, which includes materials used in building construction, has significant adverse impacts on natural resources and the environment in the country. Particularly, brick manufacturing is a resource as well as an emission intensive activity. Population increase, economic development and rapid urbanisation will contribute towards a greater demand for building materials, including bricks. The study report proposes a practical and implementable roadmap for adopting resource efficient building materials over the next 15 years, which will lead to greater resource efficiency, reduction in emissions, improved quality of housing and increase livelihood generation.
