Biomass resources provide nearly 30% of India’s energy needs. Conventional biomass (in the form of agricultural waste, forest residue, and dung) is used as cookstove fuel, forming a major energy resource for nearly 70% of Indian households. The paper presents ways to optimally harness the potential of biomass to meet India’s growing energy needs.
