Transitioning to electric vehicles can have immense environmental and economic benefits for India. However, the electric vehicle market in the country is still at a nascent stage. While the Central and state governments have rolled out various policies with the objective of encouraging stakeholders to adopt electric vehicles, the uptake is still not optimum. It is therefore necessary to review our current position in the electric vehicle transition and understand how we can progress at a faster rate in the adoption of electric vehicles.
The objective of this report is to provide a review of the global electric vehicle market and situate India within it. The report also gives readers an overview of the EV policy and adoption plan in India along with the landscape of battery technology, charging infrastructure. The report concludes with a discussion of the challenges and strategies for electric vehicle penetration in India.
