Developed economies such as the European Union, Australia, and Japan have already drawn hydrogen roadmaps to achieve green economic growth. India can also decarbonise its energy-intensive sectors such as industry, transport, and power by using green hydrogen. With renewable power getting increasingly affordable, the likely surge in energy demand from industrial sectors during the post-pandemic economic recovery can be met by the production of hydrogen from renewable power sources. This policy brief proposes a hydrogen roadmap for India through a spatio-temporal analysis of the production modes and cost of production of hydrogen from solar and wind energy till 2040.
